STREET PLAY showcases the work of MARTHA COOPER, revealing the creative and indomitable spirit of New York City kids, in the late 70s, determined to make the best of their inhospitable environment in the streets of New York City. The book features heartbreakingly intimate photos of inventive children at play, without adult supervision, in the midst of crumbling buildings and rubble-filled vacant lots. This is a true documentation of the 70′s devastation of Lower Eastside Manhattan known as Alphabet City, an area now transformed into an ultra hip neighbourhood.
