The Nike Zoom Air Angus X-FED, the last Air Angus in production, will launch in Hong Kong on July 6th but without the accompanying outdoor skating event due to a mismatch in schedules between Nike Hong Kong and X-FED. However, both parties are gracious enough to take time off of their busy schedules for a media session about the shoes and the organization. (more photos in Grains blog)

The Nike X-FED Angus project started more than a year ago based upon the passion in promoting extreme sports in Hong Kong from both Nike and X-FED. The Angus was selected by Nike Hong Kong while X-FED worked on the design. The original colorway of the shoes was black and gold but finally turned into black and yellow due to practical reasons.

As the session continued, Conroy Chan, founder of X-FED, explained the becoming of the non-profit organization. “When we were kids, there were no public nor private facilities for any action/extreme sports and we were forced to do it in the streets. We were labeled as rebels while our beloved sports were being perceived as pastimes for the losers. 20 years later, we still love the game and do not want our next generation to go through the same turmoil. An idea struck me one day. We have been seeing each other at the usual spots for years and we all know each other. Why don’t we gather players from all extreme sports to form an alliance instead of being separated into minorities. This way, we would have a much louder voice and hopefully the Hong Kong Government would listen to us and stop building something that none of us would use.”

X-FED, the first of its kind in the world by incorporating all extreme sports in one unit, was founded in 2003 aiming at promoting action/extreme sports in Hong Kong while keeping the different sports in their original cultures. This also sets the organization apart because they do it for the passion and love of the game, unlike others who are in it for the greens. With the organization’s presidents all being legends of their own sport locally, the group strive to make a difference for the next generation through hosting of events and competitions on a regular basis, and planning and building of up to par public facilities with the government.
