Converse teams up with one of hip-hop’s most introspective and insightful artists, Mos Def, on two styles of sneakers set to debut for Fall 2006. Incorporating Mos Def’s childhood past as a native Brooklynite and his visionary talents spanning the artistic spectrum, the Mos Def shoe collection will feature two celebrated Converse styles: the Weapon and the Chuck Taylor All Star Mid Music.

Update: The Chuck Taylor All Star Mid Music samples that are initially equipped with skinny laces are now being produced with fat laces.

The Mos Def collection first features the Weapon, a Converse sneaker first made popular in the mid ‘80s as the influential basketball shoe of NBA elite, in a white/black/gold colorway. Mos Def’s repeated gold autographs accent the tongue and upper portion of the sneaker creating personalized detailing to the timeless shoe. The bottom of the Weapon also displays a translucent outsole, adding further detailing distinct to the classic sneaker designed by Mos Def himself.

The second offering in the Mos Def Collection is the Chuck Taylor All Star Mid Music, a reinterpretation of the classic Chuck Taylor All Star sneaker. This shoe provides reinterpreted collar height and shape adjustments creating a more unstructured look and feel. The body of the shoe is laser etched with famous New York imagery such as the Brooklyn Bridge, creating a narrative of his past, while his signature is displayed on the tongue. White/black/red featuring the Brooklyn Bridge (Mos’ roots) and black/grey/red featuring the NYC cityscape are the two colorways available in this style.
